Apple's restrictions on macOS make it difficult to capture system audio directly. To work around this, we’ll use a virtual audio device called BlackHole.
Step 1: Install and Set Up BlackHole (Mac Only)
- Access the BlackHole installation page from the following URL:
https://existential.audio/blackhole/?pk_campaign=github&pk_kwd=readme
- Enter your email address and name, then click “Send Link to Download.”
- You will receive a download link from noreply@existential.audio to your provided email address.
If you don’t receive the email, please check the following:
- Make sure there are no typos in your email address.
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- If you’re not receiving emails from noreply@existential.audio, ensure that their emails are allowed through.
- Click the link in the email and download “BlackHole 2ch.”
- Open the downloaded installer to begin the installation.
- Open Audio MIDI Setup and create a multi-output device, selecting both “BlackHole 2ch” and the audio device to which you’d like to output sound. Right-click the multi-output device you created, and select Use This Device for Sound Output.
-To switch back to other devices (e.g., your MacBook’s speakers), double-click the desired output device and select Use This Device for Sound Output.
-While using a multi-output device, you may lose the ability to adjust volume from your keyboard. In this case, adjust volume in the app you’re using or change the primary output in Audio MIDI settings.
Step 2: Start Live Translation in Other Apps
In the desktop app, select Translate Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc. from the upper-right corner to begin capturing system audio. When your meeting ends, select Stop to end system audio capture and generate a meeting log.
